Walker firefighters will install your smoke alarm

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) – Walker County is making the proper installation of smoke alarms its number one priority for 2019.

Residents of the County can call the Fire department and request installation, and the firefighters will bring a smoke detector to your home, and install it.

They will also help residents identify potential fire hazards, and develop escape plans.

And, the program is free.

Fire Chief Blake Hodge tells us “We’re really trying to push our smoke alarm program…from the fire service side of it now, because we have so many – just like the entire country, we have so many residents that don’t have a operating smoke alarms in their house, so  we are really trying to make a big push, and, and absolutely, you know just get out to every community in Walker County and install smoke alarms.”

The Walker County Fire Department recently had a smoke alarm “installation blitz” on Dry Valley Road.

That’s where two separate fatal fires occurred within the last year.

They installed free smoke detectors in 26 homes in that area..
