Meigs County church goes up in flames

TEN MILE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Firefighters from four different departments have been battling a blaze at a Meigs County church on Monday afternoon.

Though they are still on the scene, Peakland Baptist Church has apparently suffered major damage.

The church is on Highway 68 near the Watts Bar Dam bridge on the Meigs County side.

Firefighters from Meigs, Rhea, Bradley, and Athens all responded.

Photos from the Tri-State Mutual Aid Association show the sanctuary is destroyed.
