Stranded hikers rescued in the Armuchee Valley

VILLANOW, Georgia (WDEF) – First Responders in Walker County rescued two men who were trapped by rising water this morning.

It happened in the Armuchee Valley south of Villanow around 8:30 AM.

The two men went hiking on Tuesday with the plan of getting home Tuesday evening.

But when they returned to the creek they crossed earlier, the water was too high for their truck.

Spotty cell service kept them from getting an emergency call out until this morning.

Firefighters from Walker County the Georgia Department of Corrections responded along with Walker County Deputies to the area near Manning Mill Road and East Armuchee Road.

They set up a high line cable system across the creek and attached a quick release rescue vest (see video above).

Then they walked the hikers through the fast moving water.

The rescue took about 55 minutes to pull off, but no one was injured.
