Mocs Carry .500 Record Into Regular Season Finale

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Chattanooga Mocs have just one game left in the regular season before the SoCon tournament starts up next week. Chattanooga is 7-10 in conference play and 15-15 overall. They could use a win Saturday over Wofford to make sure they wrap up a first round bye in the league tournament.

Mocs big man Jake Stephens remains in street clothes with that hand injury.
But there’s still hope he could play in the SoCon tournament.
Said head coach Dan Earl:”In fact he has another doctor’s appointment coming up. He’s working himself into shape. If he can go, he will go. If he can’t, then we will set him out.”
Before last night’s game, it was announced that Jamal Walker has taken a leave of abscence for personal reasons.
Said Earl:”I don’t know how long he will be out. We will help him through it. He’s a wonderful young man. Extremely coachable. Smiles all the time. Just kind of going through some stuff at this point.”
Mocs are left clinging to a .500 record after their 75-70 loss to Samford on Wednesday.
Said guard A.J. Caldwell:”Five-hundred doesn’t show who we are. I think everyone in the locker room knows this. We’re ready for whoever we play. I don’t think a lot of people want to play us either.”
Caldwell was one of six seniors honored last night since it was U-T-C’s final home game, and Caldwell admitis he will miss playing in McKenzie Arena.
Said Caldwell:”You kind of go to some of these other places, and it’s kind of dead. You’ve got to make your own energy. Here every single night people are going crazy. The students. The cheerleaders. Staff. Media. Everywhere. It’s a cool environment. Doesn’t always feel like a SoCon school. We went to Georgia and Ole Miss, and it was kind of the same vibe.”
Mocs wouldn’t mind enjoying a good vibe in Asheville next week in the SoCon touranment.
Said guard Dalvin White:”We’ve had our ups and our downs. We stay so tight as a team. We stay together. We love each other, so I feel like as long as we do that, we can go far in the tournament. Just stay focused and be ready to play.”

Mocs travel to Wofford Saturday for a 7pm tipoff.
