Active shooter incident ends with suspect in custody

The Dalton Police Department responded to an active shooter incident this morning on Shugart Road.   It happened at Cliffs Apartments and the incident is now over.  The shooter is in custody and is receiving medical attention.  Police tell us early information indicates that at 7:40 this morning two Dalton officers were dispatched to the apartments to a report of 9-11 caller making erratic statements.  When officers arrived the suspect shot at least one round and fled into the woods.  Police say more shots were fired in the direction of officers.  When the suspect was taken into custody, he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.    The GBI will also assist Dalton Police with this investigation.
