Four locals to participate in Major League Fishing tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WDEF) — Local professional anglers will participate in the upcoming Major League Fishing (MLF) tournament. The winner will be crowned the newest professional fishing world champion.

The MLF REDCREST 2023 tournament, also known as the Bass Pro Shops REDCREST, will take place in North Carolina starting next week.

The tournament will be in Charlotte, North Carolina and Lake Norman. The event will be held March 8 until March 12.

The top prize will be $300,000.

Forty anglers will be competing in this event.

Professional anglers from East Tennessee include:

  • Andy Morgan of Dayton.
  • Michael Neal of Dayton.
  • Wesley Strader of Spring City.
  • Jacob Wheeler of Harrison.

This will be their fourth REDCREST championship appearances. Together, the four have combined more than $9 million in career earnings and 26 victories.

“It is an accomplishment just to qualify for this event, so I’m excited for the opportunity to fish another Major League Fishing championship event and I looking forward to competing for $300,000 next week on Lake Norman,” Morgan said.
