Heritage Basketball Team Rides 14 Game Winning Streak Into Region Tournament

Ringgold, GA-(WDEF) The Heritage high school basketball team is enjoying the best year in school history.
The Generals posted a 22-3 record, which earned them the top seed going into their region tournament tonight.
Heritage lost seven players off of last year’s team, so there was some doubt as the Generals prepared to tip off this season.
Said guard Jaylon Gaines,"We didn’t know where we were going to be at the beginning of the season. We all just really came together. Started playing team ball."
And head coach Kevin Terry encouraged team ball by showing his guys clips of a veteran NBA team known for their team ball.
"I showed them some clips of the (San Antonio) Spurs early on and some of their great plays from last year. We talked about how this team has the talent to be like that. To play very Spurs-like."
Said guard Tyler Childers,"That’s what is unique about our team. One person can score 21 one game, and then the next person can score 21 in the next game. Our points are all balanced out. "
Said Terry,"That’s a beautiful thing. I guess it’s called synergy where the team is more than the parts."
But the Generals were missing that synergy against rival LFO in December.
Said Childers,"Well, I think the main thing that turned our season around was our loss against Lakeview. Lakeview wasn’t really that good this year. It showed us that we can get beat by anybody, no matter how good we are as a team."
Since that loss to LFO, the Generals have ripped off 14 straight wins.
Said Terry,"It seems like we are finding a way to make those plays down the stretch. When it’s crunch time, we’ve had some guys step up and make plays."
And it never hurts to have a clutch point guard like Jaylon Gaines.
Said Terry,"Jaylon is generally the most athletic kid on the court almost every night. He can handle the ball like crazy. He creates a lot of offense for us and creates a lot for his teammates."
