Annual Catholic procession moved indoors due to weather restraints

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul celebrated their annual Eucharistic procession on Sunday afternoon.

In the past, the church has joined other communities in a tradition of walking streets of Chattanooga for their Corpus Christi Processions.
Starting from the church, the procession includes city blocks of Georgia Ave., McCallie Ave., and Lindsay St.
Unfortunately, due to weather restrictions, this church opted to do the Catholic tradition indoors.

“It’s a way for us to get together and celebrate together what we believe. To manifest it in a visible way,” Father David Carter said.

The Catholic procession is a visual walk for Christ. Continuing their tradition, church members celebrated the tradition in their sanctuary.”Now we would have gone out into the streets of Chattanooga, but we had news reports and weather reports of thunder and lightning. And then it turns out it is a beautiful day. We could have done it, but we opted out of an abundance of caution to do it inside. But we still did the same thing,” Carter said.

The hope is that they will get to carry out the tradition outside again next year.
