Local volunteers help in community skatepark stewardship day

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A new skatepark is in the works for Chattanooga.

Chattanooga’s current skatepark has been around for almost 20 years. This project will bridge the current park and a new addition from the city and multiple local organizations.
The skatepark project started 11 years ago and is now coming to the public in the near future.
Volunteers helped in a community skatepark stewardship day to make some improvements and light repairs.
“It does show what you can do when you have an advocacy group that are as dedicated as skaters. And the people that you see here now, a lot of them grew up at this park. So now as adults in their 20s and 30s, they’re out here taking over the responsibilities of it,” volunteer Shawn Clouse said.
Next year there will be construction on a full concrete park.

Currently volunteers have helped resurface the park to continue skating in the meantime.
