New connector trail to connect downtown Chickamauga to Battlefield
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – In a meeting with laughter and excited patrons there was a hope for the finish of the connector trail.
“This is a great program to really attract people from outside the community but also people locally who will probably use it even more so,” said Shannon Whitfield.
One of the main talking points during the meeting was safety. Shannon Whitfield, Chairman and CEO of Walker County Government said, “We have people that are biking this rode now on the sides of the roads, so it is very unsafe now so by this project coming in it is going to create a lot of safety.”
Trust for Public Land is one of the Partners who is making this project a reality. Nolan Durant, the Tennessee State Director, says he is excited to work on this project. “We are thrilled to get to work alongside Walker county and the city of Chick to pursue this completion of the battlefield connector,” said Durant.
Not only will the connector trail connect the people and business of Chickamauga, it’ll also help to make the street safer. Durant said, “This road is busy, vehicles are going fats, how can we create something that’s both and asset for walking and biking and make the street safer.”
If all the funding goes according to plan a possible opening date could be set in December of 2024.
