22-year-old hiker found dead on Sunset Rock

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- On Friday, Lookout Mountain Fire personnel hiked two miles and repelled 80 feet down Sunset Rock, where they discovered a 22 year-old male deceased.

That evening, a concerned father called 911 reporting his 22 year-old son missing after he did not attend his doctor’s appointment.

The father was able to used the mobile phone app “Find My Phone” to locate his son’s cell phone at Sunset Rock.

At 5:54 p.m., Lookout Mountain Police and Fire responded to 400 West Brow Road.

A mutual aid response was requested for additional manpower to assist with recovery efforts.

Hamilton County STARS, Hamilton County Cave and Clift Team, HCEMS, Lookout Mtn. GA Fire, HCOEM/HCSO Drone Team, and Dallas Bay VFD responded to the scene.

The Chattanooga Fire Department stood by at Lookout Mountain fire station for additional emergency calls.

No additional information will be released until the next of kin is notified.

Since this incident is considered a crime scene, Lookout Mountain Police will not release any additional information.
