NFL cornerback previews backpack giveaway in Ooltewah

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) — Tre Herndon plays cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s hosting a backpack drive this Saturday at East Hamilton High School.

Donated backpacks will be filled with school supplies.

The clinic will last from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, July 15.

Herndon played at East Hamilton and later at Vanderbilt, before joining the NFL.

“It’ll be fun, it’ll be good to give back to kind of touch the community, shake hands, take pictures… and just try to give to the youth – which is the future of Chattanooga. And if I can help with that, that’s awesome to me,” Herndon said.

Herndon wants to spread the importance of a good education.

There will also be games, food and prizes.

Participants who bring a school report card, or self-identifying document proving their age and grade in school, will be eligible to win prizes from Herndon.

The backpack drive will also be partnered with Athlete Relations.
