Dalton Has Some Big Shoes to Fill on Offense

Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) We kick off our 30-in-30 high school football series with Dalton high school.
We’ll be previewing 30 schools over the next 30 days, starting with the Catamounts. Dalton has a big hole to fill on offense this season.
How will they fill that huge hole? News 12’s Brian Armstrong goes digging for answers with this 30-in-30 preview.

Dalton High School football lost a lot of offensive production last year with the graduation of nearly 2000 yard rusher Tyson Greenwade. However, there are several players coming back.

Said head coach Kit Carpenter: “You know, we do a great job of playing as many people as we can. And so while we lose Tyson as a great running back, our entire offensive line is back. And so we’ve got some candidates at running back that will do a great job for us.

Said tight end Jeffson Locke: “Getting everybody used to it and getting everybody rotating into see who fits best at what positions. And we’re just trying to build our offense to see where our playmakers are going to be”

Last year, Dalton lost in the second round of the playoffs. Coach Carpenter says if the team focuses on the little things now, the winds will take care of themselves in the fall.

Said Carpenter: “We just continue to try to get better every day. If we can continue to improve, the winds will take care of themselves”

Carpenter praises the culture and positive attitude his players bring to the football team.

Said Carpenter: “The attitude of these kids, they come to work every day. And when you have that kind of special attitude, it gives you the opportunity to do a lot of great things”

Said Locke: “Like right after the season, it didn’t just immediately end football. We still went out and we still practiced together. We’d go on the field every day, come into this weight room everyday after school, work out together and just build our bond together and stand out.”

Players like Locke continue to become more comfortable with the system and teammates.

Said Locke: “The chemistry that I myself have with my teammates more because last year I had just transferred in and was still filling the place out, getting to know everybody. But I’ve already had a year in with everybody this year”
