Notre Dame Hoping For Some Luck of the Irish
Notre Dame may be the Irish, but they have to be wondering where’s the luck of the Irish.
Notre dame hasn’t enjoyed much luck at all in recent years, but they’re hoping for a brighter future this fall.
The Irish jump into the 30-in-30 spotlight.
Notre Dame hasn’t enjoyed a winning season since 2018.
Head coach Charles Fant says part of the problem has been a lack of depth.
Said Fant:”It’s hard when you go from having 50 players. I think we had back-to-back 17 and 15 seniors graduate. Next thing you know it’s like we’ve got 38 players. I think one year we had 35 players we ended the season with. We have probably our second largest freshmen class since I’ve been here. That’s going to be big time for us.”
Maybe the additional freshmen will be just what the seniors need.
Said Fant:”This senior class. They have been. They hit the grunt of this growth of rebuilding. They’re starving for a break-out year.”
Said senior receiver Justin Baker:”It has been tough. It has been a struggle. We haven’t given up. Just keep going. Trying to keep our faith strong. Get to another level.”
Coach Fant has faith in his quarterbacks.
Said Fant:”Keegan Smith. Cooper Campbell. Those guys are working so hard. They sit with offensive coordinator Bo Campbell, and they’re just constantly learning. They’ll go zoom call at night sometimes with Coach Campbell.”
And it sounds like the Irish offense will have a coveted trait.
Said Baker:”The offense. We’re fast, fast, fast. A lot of speed.”
Reporter:”Anything new Notre Dame is going to do this year?”
Said Baker:”Anything new? I say we are going to score a lot of points. That’s new.”
