Baylor’s Charlotte Hoss Qualifies For Pentathlon at AAU Junior Olympics

Baylor 8th grader Charlotte Hoss qualified in four events for this year’s AAU junior Olympics Saturday, and she will be competing tomorrow at the event in the pentath

lon.

News 12s Brian Armstrong spoke to Hoss about how a previous trip to nationals will aid her in this weekends event.

Baylor 8th grader Charlotte Hoss is competing in Nationals this weekend.

Said Hoss:”The pentathlon, it’s definitely different because the pentathlon is very different than just a normal 100. But honestly, I like the pentathlon more because it’s like it’s very fast paced and you don’t have to wait around for a while. You can go from event to event.”

The pentathlon comprises of long jump, shot put, high jump800 and her favorite event, the 100 meters hurdles. She got involved because she decided to listen to her parents.

Said Hoss:”My parents, they were the ones who wanted me to try it because they thought I’d be good at it. So they were the ones who suggested the idea. And then I kind of was just like, oh yeah, I’ll try it and then I’ve loved it.”

She competed in the 100 meters dash at Nationals two years ago, which she feels gives her an advantage on Saturday.

Said Hoss:”I don’t really think about it. Like whenever I step onto the field when I’m about to race, I kind of just clear my head. I tell myself, just do the best you can, that’s all that really matters. And I just don’t really think.”

She is also coming off a growth plate injury, so she only had three weeks to train for Nationals.

Said Hoss:”I kind of just think that it’s like all the time I have, so I kind of just have to make the most of the time because it’s not like I’m going to magically get some more. It definitely was kind of difficult because I was coming off of an injury and to this day still have do stuff to make sure my injury doesn’t come back.”
