Semi-truck catches fire, motorcycle crashes on I-75 Friday afternoon

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — First responders worked two nearby incidents on I-75 in Hamilton County on Friday.

At around 12 p.m., Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) was on scene for both incidents.

A semi-truck had caught fire on I-75 southbound at the Scenic Overlook, and a motorcycle crashed on I-75 northbound at the Ooltewah-Georgetown Road overpass.

There were no hazardous materials on the semi-truck that caught fire, Tri Community VFD said. However, hazmat crews had to clean up a diesel leak, and Bradley County firefighters got the truck fire under control.

The fire department also noted that the motorcyclist received injuries in the crash. They did not state the extent of their injuries.

The left lane on I-75 northbound was temporarily closed from the crash. All lanes are back open now.

Tri Community VFD urged citizens to take a different route if traveling through Cleveland and Ooltewah during this time.

Responders cleared up both incidents just before 2 p.m.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the tractor trailer fire.
