Hamilton County Schools Unveil Threshold for Free and Reduced Lunches
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Schools have announced the thresholds for free and reduced school lunches this year.
The program, funded through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), applies to students whose families make under a set income level.
For example, a family of four that makes under 39-thousand dollars a year would qualify for free lunches and any family of four that makes up to 55 and a half thousand dollars a year would qualify for reduced lunches.
Kristen Nauss, the Director of Child Nutrition for Hamilton County Schools said, “In about half of our schools, those schools qualify for a program that allows for free and reduced, so in those schools, families don’t have to apply for free and reduced, those students automatically eat free.”
For families in schools that are not covered by the free and reduced program automatically, applications are available at H-C-S’s website or request a paper copy from their student’s school.
