Dalton Dover Returns to North Georgia for Country Music Fest

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Polk County, Georgia native Dalton Dover can’t stay away from our area too long.

He’s doing another hometown show down the road in Marietta for Georgia Country Music Fest on September 1.

“That’s going to be with Koe Wetzel and Trey Lewis. I’m really excited about that. That’s going to be a party.”

Dover has already been quite busy over this past year, touring with several big names, including Tyler Hubbard and Parker McCollum.

“It’s just been so fun. Everybody’s been so nice, and welcoming me in with open arms, and it’s just been so great.”

Dalton always knew he wanted to pursue music. But it wasn’t until early 2019, after making some money playing shows, that he realized he didn’t want to do anything else.

“When I got on ‘The Voice’ [Season 16], it kind of motivated me. I started putting music out after I got off the show, and that’s all she wrote,” he said. “Blake [Shelton], he’s always been supportive ever since the show. He’s just been so supportive. And last year he called and invited me to make my Grand Ole Opry debut. So it’s been great having his support.”

Not only has Dover worked with Blake Shelton, but he’s even collaborated with one of his country music heroes – Vince Gill.

“I’ve not said this anywhere else, but I recently just done a duet with Vince Gill on ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain,’ and I can’t wait for that to come out. We don’t have a date for that yet, but yeah, there’s a lot coming that I’m excited about,” Dover said. “It’s kind of crazy even talking to him on the phone, you know, just because I’ve listened to him since I was just a kid. So it’s pretty surreal.”

Teaming up with Gill may be a highlight, but Dover still has a lot to look forward to with lots of his own new music that hasn’t been released.

You might’ve heard some of it during his recent Chattanooga show with Parker McCollum.

“We’ve got so much new music just sitting in my back pocket right now that I’m so excited to get out. But I’m just waiting for the right time. We just released ‘Night To Go,’ so hopefully we’ll have some new music out soon.”

Dover said he’s currently working on an EP, but there’s no timeline for it yet.

He’s proud of the music he released earlier this year. “I Wouldn’t Be Here” is about his mom.

“I had that title in my phone for a while,” Dalton said. “I wanted to write a song for my mom. Mother’s Day was coming up, and when I wrote the song, it was so perfect. I’d done a demo of it the next day, and I showed my mom the next week. So it worked out because she loves that song. Every time she cranks her car up, it plays.”

“Giving Up On That” is his first radio single. It’s in the top 50 and climbing on both the Mediabase and Billboard charts.

“I wrote the song with two of my best friends, and I always dreamed of having a song go to radio,” Dover said. “That song just felt really cool when we wrote it. I knew it was special. I didn’t know that was going to be my first song at radio.”

You’ll probably hear some of that new music at his show in Marietta.

Dover isn’t the only familiar face you’ll see at the Georgia Country Music Fest though.

LaFayette natives Channing Wilson and Ben Chapman are also playing at the event on Sunday.
