North Murray’s Judson Petty Honored For Breaking State Receiving Record
Chatsworth, GA-(WDEF-TV) North Murray’s Judson Petty broke the Georgia high school state record for the most receiving yards in a game last week against Pickens. He was honored for the achievement at school on Wednesday, and News 12’s Brian Armstrong captured the ceremony.
Said Petty: “It was very shocking. I still don’t know what to say about it. It was just crazy.”
North Murray’s Judson Petty was recognized as the Player of the Week in all of Georgia. This comes after he broke the state record for most receiving yards in a game with 360 on 16 receptions and four touchdowns.
Petty: “I knew I had a decent amount of yards. I thought I had maybe 200 and 4250, but then when I found out I had 360, it really, really shocked me. I had no clue.
Said head coach Preston Poag: We didn’t even know it was a state record until we got in here Sunday, started game planning. I said, look up the record, and he blew the record away. And since 2012, that record has stood.
Not only did he break the state receiving record, he also had double digit tackles on defense and ran for over 40 yards.
Said Poag: I’m walking off with him at halftime and he said, Man, I feel like I played a whole game. I said, well, you better get in and drink some fluids, because you got to get your second win.
Said Petty: “There was a couple of times that one would have been nice, but I was in the moment of the game and just really want to be out there with my team and my brothers and try to come out with a win.
Coach says Petty is a humble kid, and the first thing he did when he was recognized for the record was thank his teammates.
Said Poag: We had a team meeting Monday and brought him up there and told everybody had the state record,
and first thing he said is, I couldn’t have done it without y’all, all of y’all. So he’s just that type of kid.
It wouldn’t been possible without my line blocking, Skylar making the right reads and great throws and put the ball in the money every time.
Poag also says Petty plays football the right way, and it reminds him of North Murray alum Ladd McConkey.
Said Poag: Ladd :won’t talk about himself. He wants to talk about the team. And that’s a really good thing to have, a good trait for a football player to have in this day and time because you have a lot of players that want to it’s all about me, but those guys, it’s not about them.
