Vols Try to Forget Lame Game Ahead of Big Game With Florida
The Vols looked solid in their first game of the year. Last week…not so much. Tennessee needs to find their groove again this weekend for their annual grudge match with Florida.
Vols got the win last Saturday against Austin Peay, but it wasn’t pretty.
30-13 was the final, even though Tennessee was favored by more than 40 points.
Said tight end Jacob Warren:”As an offense we are expecting to score a lot of points right? Just didn’t quite move the ball the way we wanted to. Wasn’t quite efficient in the red zone for our standards right? We won the game, which is really all the matters at the end of the day. But we realize there’s a lot of work to do, and things we need to talk about.”
Said head coach Josh Heupel:”The difference between success and failure in this game is really small. It wasn’t all eleven at one time. We can be better. Need to be better. These guys care. They’ve got a great care factor about them. We’ll have a great week of practice.”
One of the bright spots…tight end McCallen Castles caught his first career touchdown pass.
Said Castles:”The first thing going through my head is don’t get caught. Don’t get caught. And then when I got in the end zone, it’s crazy how much energy and excitement. It was awesome.”
Vols will need energy in the swamp. They haven’t won on Florida’s home turf since 2003.
Said Warren:”Just one of those things again that doesn’t really matter right? When we’re on the field, who cares how long it has been right? Whether it’s here or there or whatever. Just going out there and trying to compete. Be the best we can be. Obviously be great to win there for sure after this many years.”
And who knows…maybe center cooper mays will play against Florida after missing Tennessee’s first two games following a surgical procedure.
Said Heupel:”Yeah if he’s playing we have great confidence that he’s going to play at the level he wants to and we need him to too.”
