Driving Our Economy Forward: News 12 Jobs Expo

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Brainerd BX was the place to be Wednesday for anyone on the job hunt.

More than a dozen Chattanooga area organizations were on hand for the News 12 Jobs Expo.

Let’s see how these companies are Driving Our Economy Forward.

“Today, we had a wonderful opportunity to bring 15 businesses together, so that our community has a chance to one-stop shop for a new position to further enhance their career,” said Jess Raby, Local Sales Manager for WDEF News 12.

“What brings me out here, to be able to see what the expo has to offer, and to see if there’s anything that’s able to match up what I want,” said Jeffery Lindsey, Job Expo Visitor.

“As you notice from driving around the community everyone seems to be hiring,” Raby said. “So if you’re looking for a new career or a career change could be a very daunting task. So it’s really difficult to stand out and be able to meet who you need to meet face-to-face. And have the opportunity to make that connection by being able to bring our participants together here and invite the community. They are able to meet face-to-face. They are able to shake hands. They are able to sit down and do an on-site interview so that our participants have the best chance of getting a job that they want.”

“I think we can’t rely on people for candidates to wait around,” said Amy Bradford, Corporate Recruiter, SHAW. “We have to respect the fact that they do have so many options, and that we are competing amongst employers, that aren’t even physically here with remote opportunities as well.”

“I think it helps recruiting in the aspect where they get to see your face of the company. And then you know, we get to talk about our experiences at the company. And then it shows that you know a face to the company I guess,” said Robin Jenkins, Administrative Coordinator-Recruitment, SHAW.

“Out of the 15 vendors that are here today we have everything for every single person all skill sets and all experiences,” Raby said. “With everything from the medical field to financial, to a higher education; both recruitment, to work higher education. And to also furthering your education to further enhance your job search.”

“Chattanooga State is there to support students at all stages of their lives,” said Keely Farris, Specialist with Adult Services, Chattanooga State Community College. “And when you get to go back as an adult and re-imagine way, what career you want to do. And get a second chance at it. It’s a real gift.”

“If you miss today’s event, no worries,” Raby said. “We are going to do three more job expos in 2024. We’ll make sure that you are aware of when those are and we’re happy to have you.”
