Fourth annual Chattanooga Motorcar Festival kicks off the weekend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Drifting, high-speed racing, live music and more. This is what the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival is all about.

“This is more than just a car event,” said festival founder Byron Defoor. “This is a motor car festival that brings racing, concourse cars, anything that a child to a grandparent, or family would want to see, we have here.”

However, this event is more than fast cars.

“16 years ago, we decided we wanted to race and everything we do. And what we try to do here, we give to Memorial,” said Defoor.

The festival keeps growing every year.

“This year is very special because we brought so many new venues. The B-52’s are playing tonight. Tomorrow will be racing again. Car clubs from all over the country have showed up here to show their support. Obviously, Sunday some of the most expensive cars in the world will be here,” Defoor explained.

One driver had his inaugural ride around the track.

“This is my first year at the Chattanooga Motor Car Festival. It looks really cool. I didn’t really know what to expect so getting here, this is rad,” said professional drift car driver Adam LZ.

His car was made for drifting.

“The car that I’m driving is the RTR Spec 5D. This is the demo car that is based on the cars that we use in Formula Drift. It is pretty much a full race car, but it is a little bit toned down. Our professional drift cars make about 1200 horsepower, this one makes like 800. It is a supercharged Ford V8 and it’s a lot of fun. 6 speed and makes all the good noises,” Adam LZ said.

His main goal is to not crash and have fun doing it.

“I don’t really know what I’m going to be doing, but I know I’m going to be drifting,” Adam LZ continued. “I’m going to try to put on the best show I can and put some excitement on the track for the people to watch. Look like I’m crashing without crashing, that’s drifting.”

The Chattanooga Motorcar Festival will run until Sunday.
