Firearm trailer offers free demonstrations from female instructors

Changing Lives One Shot at a Time

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Shooters of all experience levels were invited to stop by the Shoot Like A Girl trailer in front of Bass Pro Shops this weekend to learn about safe and responsible gun ownership.

The initiative informs users of the benefits of firearms from certified female instructors who are eager to share their passion for shooting sports, the outdoors and firearm education.

Shoot Like a Girl and our sister company, Safe Living, we actually have a second truck, travel the country and introduce women, men, families, and communities to the shooting sports,” Vice President Christa Forrester said.

Shoot Like a Girl has been in business for 15 years.

The initiative started as archery only and added on firearms when it was recognized that there was a need for community firearm education.

“Our goal is to be able to bring this in the community for those that have either never shot, maybe they had a bad experience, or they’re unsure… and even the experienced shooter to be able to be a part of just getting out and enjoying the shooting sports,” Forrester said.

The Shoot Like a Girl  initiative provides handgun, archery, and rifle experiences inside a truck accompanied by certified firearm instructors.

The handgun and rifle real firearms are modified to shoot a projectile on the military grade simulator with recoil and sound feedback.

“Our whole mission is to empower people to get outside and really encompass the shooting sports as well as embrace and understand firearm safety,” Forrester added.

Inside the range, attendees who are 18 years of age or older will be able to handle and shoot a handgun and long gun with guidance from instructors.

Their gun bar displays firearms that are all deactivated and tethered so individuals can examine guns without safety risks.

“This gives you the opportunity to put your hands on a firearm, kind of like you would do if you were trying shoes on at the store,” Forrester said.

Their hope is to inform others about safe procedures and how they can purchase a firearm with appropriate knowledge.

“So being a female, I’m speaking to the females, but I also want you to know that I’m speaking to the males and everyone in between. This is not intimidating. Come on out. Let us be here with you one-on-one. We don’t leave you alone. It’s a great first-step into that shooting experience. And I got to tell you, we see lots of cheers, smiles, and excitement here at the trailer. We would love to have you here at the Bass Pro in Chattanooga this weekend,” Forrester said.

The trailer was available on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bass Pro Outpost in Chattanooga.

It will be open again on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
