Walker County Sheriff warns citizens of scam phone calls

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Walker County citizens have recently been receiving scam phone calls, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Steve Wilson said residents are receiving calls in which the caller pretends to be a deputy sheriff.

He said the caller tells the victim they have a warrant for their arrest. The caller has been telling people they can pay for the warrant to be dismissed, Sheriff Wilson explained.

“This is a scam that has been going around the Tennessee Valley area for several years,” Sheriff Wilson said. “The Walker County Sheriff’s Office will never telephone you to request payment for a warrant.”

He is also warning citizens to never give out personal information to telephone solicitors.

The sheriff’s office says to contact them if you believe you have been a victim of this scam. You can report this by calling 706-375-7810.
