CFC Open Playoffs Sunday Against Flower City Union

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The CFC enjoyed a spectacular regular season, losing only twice in 24 league games.
But it’s back to zero this weekend, as the boys in blue jump into post-season action.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong has the playoff preview.

Chattanooga FC finished this year as regular season champions.

Said head coach Rod Underwood: “You know, at my age, you appreciate every moment because you don’t know when the next, if it’s ever going to come again. So it’s not about looking back. It’s about just appreciating all the moments as it comes. And here’s another moment that it’s like, let’s just go out and do it and do our best and let the chips fall where they may.”

Said player Alex McGrath: “Sometimes it takes a little bit away from it because you’ve still got things to think about after the season. Um, again, I think looking back, it’s going to be a good accomplishment no matter what. But you still, as a player, you always want to succeed as much as, as much as you can. And having that regular season, I think, does give us a boost of confidence.”

But now it’s time for the postseason. Chattanooga FC will face Flower City Union in the NISA

semifinals at Finley Stadium on Sunday, a team CFC has faced four times this year.
Said McGrath:” It is in the past, so you can’t think about it too much, but I don’t believe we’ve conceded a goal against them, which for us is positive, but we can’t let that lead to complacency, because again, they’ve got some good players, they’re a good team, and when you’re playing playoff, uh, soccer, it’s different, anyone can turn up on the day, and we just need to make sure that we’re prepared for them.

Said Underwood: “Can’t take anything away from them. A few weeks ago, I, I said, look, they’ve, they’ve been very resilient. They have figured out how to put it together. They’ll be dangerous. They haven’t been an easy opponent for us, and I don’t expect anything different on the weekend.”

Chattanooga FC was in the semifinals last year at home where they lost to the eventual winners.

Said Underwood: “That’s a little bit of motivation, but it’s never about that, because they really don’t need the motivation from winning or losing. The motivation was starting the season, Kobe first, all the way through.”

Match time against Flower City Union is 5pm Sunday at Fort Finley.
