CPD respond to fatal pedestrian traffic crash in Northshore
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police responded to a fatal traffic crash in the 200 block of Frazier Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
UPDATE:
Officers were advised pedestrians and a building were struck during the traffic crash. When officers arrived, they found three pedestrians with life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows a Dodge Grand Caravan and Nissan Titan were involved in a traffic crash in Northshore.
After this initial crash, the Dodge left the roadway and struck three pedestrians who were on the sidewalk.
The driver ultimately struck a building on Frazier Avenue.
Chattanooga Fire and Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene.
Three pedestrians were transported to a local hospital with lethal injuries.
EMS transported the victims and driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan to a nearby hospital.
The driver faced non-life-threatening injuries.
However, two of the pedestrians died from their injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan, 44-year-old Randy Vega of Tampa, Florida, was arrested for two charges of vehicular homicide by impairment, aggravated vehicular assault by impairment, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane.
Vega will be transported to Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while CPD’s Traffic Unit conducted their on-scene investigation.
The building sustained significant damage from the crash. A building inspector responded to the scene to assess the damage to the building.
CPD’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances of this incident.

At 3:16 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Frazier Avenue.
Three pedestrians were transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
One driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
CPD has not released any other details at this time.
