Nashville Singer Grace Leer Makes Hallmark Movie Debut
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Nashville country singer and American Idol alum is making her acting debut in a Hallmark movie.
Grace Leer costars in “Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas,” and even performs in the film.
“The acting side has always been something I wanted to lean into, just because it’s just another way for me to be creative, and another side of me that people get to see,” Leer said.
The movie debuted Thursday night on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
It also stars Shenae Grimes-Beech, and former “Nashville” actor Chris Carmack.
“The way the movie came about, I just happened to be a great fit in terms of them looking for an actor that could pass as Chris Carmack’s little sister, which is my role,” Grace said.
“Time For Her To Come Home For Christmas” is the sixth installment of the popular movie franchise based on a book.
Country star Blake Shelton is an executive producer on all of the movies.
Leer even sings Blake’s song, “Time For Me To Come Home” in the film, which she says she was honored to do.
Grace also has her own song featured – “Star On Top Of The Tree.”
“It’s really just about what Christmas is about,” Greer said. “I feel like we went off the phrase of, you know, when you say the cherry on top of something. The decorations and the cookies and the lights are all wonderful things, but that’s just the star on top, or the cherry on top, of what Christmas is about, which is being with the people that you love, and sometimes that might be being home. When I wrote the song, I definitely had the film in mind because we had already filmed the movie. I came back to Nashville, went to the writing room, and really wanted to write that song that would be a great fit, and Hallmark thought ‘Star On Top Of The Tree’ was a good fit, so it’s my first song in a movie, and it’s my Christmas single that’s out right now.”
The movie will rerun on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries several times this month – including on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

Leer says she hasn’t heard if a seventh “Time for Me to Come Home” Hallmark movie is in the works yet.
“I hope that there’s another one, and maybe you’ll see me in it,” she said.
Until then, Grace says she’ll continue to read scripts, and get better at the craft. She hopes the new year will bring new acting opportunities along with it.
But we can count on new music from her next year.
“I’ve been writing like crazy, and really excited for this new wave of music coming at you guys,” Leer said. “I’m definitely leaning towards a new project of some sort.”
