Man dies while in Hamilton County Jail custody
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A man died while in custody at the Hamilton County Jail on Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
They identified the man as Michael James Dodd.
The HCSO ruled his death as a suicide by hanging, which happened in a unit shower.
Corrections deputies brought down the inmate and began CPR on him. They then transported him to Erlanger East Hospital.
However, Dodd died from his injuries.
The sheriff’s office is investigating to determine the circumstances of the apparent suicide.
This is the second in-custody death at the Hamilton County Jail in 2023. The first happened on October 14.
