TDOT to implement I-24 lane closures during overnight roadwork

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — There will be nightly roadwork on I-24 in Hamilton County throughout the remainder of the year, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). Crews will be working on new bridges at South Moore Road and McBrien Road.

Construction on these new bridges will begin on Wednesday, December 13.

Roadwork will take place from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Construction crews will use rolling roadblocks to stop traffic in 30-minute increments. They will be setting new bridge beams, TDOT explained. The closures will be repeated throughout the night until crews have set all beams.

TDOT asks drivers to avoid these areas during this roadwork.

Their work schedule for these new bridges is as follows.

  • Nights of 12/13 and 12/14: South Moore Road bridge over I-24 East
  • Nights of 12/18 and 12/19: McBrien Road bridge over I-24 East
  • Nights of 12/20 and 12/21: McBrien Road bridge over I-24 West
  • Nights of 1/2/24 and 1/3/24: South Moore Road bridge over I-24 West

There will be no lane closures during holiday travel periods. TDOT designates holiday periods as 6 a.m. Friday, December 22 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 2.

Roadwork is weather-dependent as well.
