Hamilton County’s final recommendations for school futures

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Schools has given their final recommendations for the future of schools in the area.

The recommendations will be proposed to the Hamilton County School Board on Thursday night.

School officials plan to make improvements to seven Hamilton County schools, which serve 13 communities.

They have provided two options for the school board to deliberate.

Option one will cost $200 million to $230 million, and option two will cost $225 million to $260 million.

The main difference between the two options rests on Soddy Daisy Middle School.

Option one suggests renovating the current Soddy Daisy High School site into a 6th to 12th grade campus, combining both the middle and high school. This option will also include upgrading athletic facilities, renovating the existing space, and improving traffic flow and parking.

Option two suggests building a brand new Soddy Daisy Middle School at the existing site, doubling the cost of renovations to the school.

There have been concerns raised in the past over the recent growth at the Howard School.

For the past four months, the school board has been debating on combining Alpine Crest as well.

Back in 2022, the school board was considering turning the Cigna building into a school, too. But they are now recommending turning it into a new primary school.
