Cleveland Wrestling Team Has Insane Winning Streak of 128 Consecutive Dual Matches

Cleveland, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Cleveland high school wrestling team has put together one of the most insane winning streaks you’ve ever heard of.

They’ve won 128 consecutive dual matches. That’s the longest winning streak of any sport in Tennessee high school history.

News 12s Brian Armstrong has the story.

Cleveland High School Wrestling has won an unprecedented 128 straight duel matches and won six consecutive state titles.

Said head coach Joey Knox: “We haven’t been beaten in five years, so it’s one of those deals where we’re seeking out good competition, but we’ve just had pretty good teams here in the last few years”

That’s right. Five years. The last time Cleveland Wrestling lost a match was when Patrick Mahomes hadn’t won an NFL MVP yet. And Jeremy Pruitt took over Tennessee football’s head coaching job during coach Joey Knox time in charge. He’s 163-3.

Said Knox:”They were scheduled losses. They were something we try to get beat every year, but you know, sometimes it doesn’t happen.”

and they haven’t lost any because of the team’s culture.

Said wrestler Zac Bosken “We started when they were young. Uh, from the club to the middle school to high school, it’s one big family.”

Said wrestler Cy Fowler: “When I was in middle school, I looked up to the high school guys, and they were winning, they were winning all the state championships, so it kind of like puts a pressure on you in the room when you’re little to put in the work so that you can continue that.

Said Knox: “We try to make it as fun as possible. I mean, for instance, right now, these guys are, out here playing games and goofing off.

Said Bosken: “Every game we play, It’s always everybody’s trying to win. Everybody’s competing from 106 to heavyweight. Everybody’s going at each other’s throats and I think that’s what makes us the best.”

Said Fowler: “It adds some fun into it and keeps us all ready to wrestle. It also stems back to beating a school rival. We want to work hard so that we can beat Bradley. And now, now it’s like we want to work hard so that, you know, nobody beats us.”

So how many wins in a row can Cleveland wrestling get?

Said Fowler: “I don’t know, maybe 500, 500 sounds like a good number.”
