HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – District Attorney Coty Wamp is urging folks to be aware of increasing car theft with thieves looking for just one thing.

District Attorney Wamp shared a video of a car break-in from a neighborhood in Lookout Valley.

Recently Dozens of Cars were broken into in the Northshore area by teenagers.

“It makes their day when they can break into your truck in your driveway and steal one or two guns, that is what they are looking for,” said Wamp. “Then your gun might be used in a violent crime, a year later or two years later.”

Thieves are breaking windows as well as targeting unlocked cars

Especially when there is a chance of a gun being in your car.

“What they are looking for is firearms. They are either going to trade them, sell them or use them for their own purposes,” said Wamp. “We have seen it over and over again in this county.”

District Attorney Wamp says In order to be safe, be aware of your surroundings.
