Charges upgraded in Pine Drive Shooting

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – Charges have been upgraded from reckless endangerment to attempted first degree murder for a man accused of pulling the trigger during a dispute.

According to the arrest affidavit, Shanon Ketchersid, 35, of Chattanooga shot Marcus Keith during an early morning altercation on April 3.

It happened at a home in the 6800 block of Pine Drive.

According to police, officers responded to the home to investigate a report of shots fired. When they entered the residence, they found Keith suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Officers also found Ketchersid and his girlfriend identified as Ashley Parsons.

According to police, Ketchersid was in the shower trying to wash away blood. During their search of the home, police found bloody clothing hidden under the bed.

Another man involved in the altercation who was identified as Zachary Hamblin reportedly suffered injures during a fight with Hamblin.

When police spoke to Parsons, she said her boyfriend was fighting Hamblin and that she attempted to stop it by leading her boyfriend into the house. But at some point, she said her boyfriend retrieved a handgun. Moments later she said the he was holding the gun and it discharged in the direction of Keith.

According to Parsons, her boyfriend had been drinking prior to the shooting.

When an investigator later spoke with Hamblin, the incident started with an argument between him, Ketchersid and Keith.

According to Hamblin, Ketchersid struck him several times in the face while the men were outside the residence. He later told police that when the two sopped fighting and Ketchersid went back into the house, he later followed him into the home only to find Keith unresponsive on the floor. Then he said Ketchersid told him to "leave quickly."

Keith later told authorities that Ketchersid charged at him with the gun and fired a shot.

Ketchersid was originally charged with reckless endangerment but the charge was upgraded to attempted first degree murder.

Ketcherid’s bond was set at $620,000 and he is due in court next Tuesday.

Police found two people injured just after midnight at a home on Pine Driver.

Marcus Keith was shot and rushed to the hospital with a life- threatening wound.

Investigators say the other was injured during a fight between the two.

Police filed charges against Ketchersid later this morning but are still investigating what happened.
