HES: Pet owners report improved mental health

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee awarded the Humane Educational Society (HES) with the “Power of Pets” grant.

According to HES, bonding with a pet is good for your health.

Animals can help with symptoms related to anxiety, PTSD, depression and loneliness.

Nearly 75% of those who own a pet report improved mental health.

“We offer our adoptions at $50 or $100 and occasionally we do free adoptions,” said Christopher Atib, HES Director of Development. “So, this is a great way to take on a new family member that’s going to provide you with a lot of health and wellness benefits throughout that time that you build that bond together.”

HES hopes this grant from BlueCross will provide animals with a caring home.
