State audit finds UT overpaid a few of their scholarships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – The University of Tennessee may look at scholarship offers a little closer next year.

A state audit found that the university over-paid some scholarships in 2022-23.

The auditors looked at all 14,260 students who got Title IV financial aid.

They only found problems with 17 of those cases.

But those 17 students got more money than they qualified for… just over $140,000.

The auditors advised the university to focus more on the training of their Title IV staff.

The university agreed, saying staff turnover had hurt their monitoring efforts.
