The Cherokee National Forest announced on Thursday that access to Benton Falls will be interrupted temporarily while crews conduct tree felling operations. They say this is for the health and safety of visitors.

Crews will use chainsaws to cut dead and hazardous trees.

During this time, the forest service is asking the public to avoid this area.

There will be signage posted and trail guards to redirect visitors away from the area for their safety.

The forest service will reopen access to Benton Falls once the project is complete. They have not stated how long the project will take.

Benton Falls is a popular hike that leads to a 65-feet waterfall near the Chilhowee Recreation Area.

The Ocoee Ranger District can provide additional information on this project.
