Mom to Mom – St. Patty’s Rocks
Okay, today on Mom to Mom we are bringing the magic to life for St. Patrick’s Day.
Today we are making magic leprechaun rocks. We all know that leprechauns are always mischievous and up to no good, so we figured we’d incorporate this fun little activity, kind of like looking for those Easter eggs on Easter, but now we’re looking for these magic rocks that the leprechaun leaves behind. Let’s make these and then I’ll tell you how it actually works.
What you’re going to need is some baking soda, some green food coloring, some gold coins, which you can get at the dollar store or a craft store. You’re going to need a mixing bowl, a pan with some parchment paper, and some vinegar. You’re going to take two cups of baking soda and throw that into your bowl. Then you’re going to take a half a cup of water and slowly pour that in and just mix it up. It’s going to be super crumbly, but you don’t want it too wet, which is kind of a weird consistency, but just get it to where you have it to make a nice little ball. Then you’re going to take your plastic coins and stick that into your mixture and kind of make a little ball out of it. Once you have it all covered, then you’re going to place it on your tray. Now, my coins are kind of big, so this solution makes up about five, so you can do two batches. I like to stick them in the freezer overnight-ish until they’re ready to be put out for the kiddos.
Once you’re done putting these out, then the kids can go look for them and gather them. They just have so much fun. Then, they can actually take the rocks and put them into a bowl, and you can hand them a little syringe and use some magic potion, which is vinegar and some food coloring. When they apply it to the rocks, it’s going to make like this foamy fun little activity for the kids that’s just going to bring the magic to life.
This is so much fun. I promise your little ones are going to love this for St. Patrick’s Day. And if you have any questions, feel free to message us on our Facebook page, and moms, we’ll see you on the next Mom to Mom.
