Gov. Kemp signs bill speeding up income tax cuts in Georgia
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WDEF) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a bill into law on Thursday accelerating the state’s largest income tax cut.
The governor signed HB 1015 into law with First Lady Marty Kemp, the General Assembly and others at a ceremony in Augusta.
This new law accelerates the reduction of income taxes.
The governor previously passed a plan to lower income taxes, but this new law allows them to speed up the process of doing so.
Gov. Kemp said in 2024’s tax year, the rate will be 5.39%.
That is a reduction of 0.36% from the 2023 tax year rate of 5.75%.
“Washington D.C. politicians are currently working to raise taxes on hardworking Americans, but here in Georgia we are keeping to our commitment to grow our economy and opportunity for the people of our state, not government,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “As a result of conservative budgeting and our pro-growth, business friendly environment, billions of more dollars will now be kept in the pockets of hardworking Georgians rather than being devoted to creating more government bureaucracy and red tape.”
