The 14th annual VA2K Walk and Roll
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The 14th annual VA2K Walk and Roll at the new Veterans Affairs Clinic wasn’t just in Chattanooga, but all over the state. The event was completely free, but it gave those who participated a chance to hear the stories from the veterans during Walk and Roll.
“We are here to raise awareness for mental health, to get donations for our homeless veterans in the area. We have a route around the clinic here to walk the 2k and meet and interact with some of our veterans and staff in our clinic,” said CDCE Volunteer Specialist, Joshua Green.
The event encouraged those who came out to support veterans through voluntary donations of food and clothing items. But the new VA clinic offers loads of opportunities for veterans that are battling with mental and physical health.
“This is an outpatient clinic where we have primary care doctors, specialty doctors, mental health, audiology, dental. We also have Whole Health, which is a fairly new program, a very great program,” said VSO for Disabled Veterans, Lisa Daniel.
While there were some who have never attended before, there were also some who have never missed a VA2K since it started. This event showed veterans that there is indeed a helping hand here in Chattanooga.
“They actually care and they right here in the front where everybody can see them…I recommend every veteran, if you are not a part of this, you need to get a part of it,” said Veteran, Anita Franklin.
Representatives from Whole Health, Mental Health, Women Veterans, and more were available to talk about health care services and programs.
The VA2K has continued to be a valuable event to not only donors and volunteers, but most importantly, Veterans.
