Florida Family Sues NASA Over Space Debris
A Florida family has filed a lawsuit against NASA after their home was damaged by space debris. NASA confirmed that a pallet hit a home in Naples instead of burning up during reentry. Alejandro Otto and his son were home when the debris created a hole in the roof. The family is seeking damages for property loss, emotional and mental anguish, and business interruption. “Space debris is a real and serious issue because of the increase in space traffic in recent years,” lawyer Mica Nguyen Worthy said. Worthy adds that the family is “grateful that no one sustained physical injuries from this incident, but a ‘near miss’ situation such as this could have been catastrophic.” (QZ)
