2,000-Year-Old Wine Discovered In Roman Tomb
2,000-year-old wine was found in a Roman tomb in Carmona, Spain. Analysis of a glass urn found the substance inside was a decayed white wine. This may be the world’s oldest vino. While the substance was red when it was found, the presence of syringic acid implies that it was intended to be a white. The wine’s mineral profile is similar to that of modern wines in the region, suggesting that local winemaking has not changed in 2,000 years. (Study Finds)
