Chattanooga announces grand opening of new Lynnbrook Park
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The city of Chattanooga celebrated the grand opening of the new Lynnbrook Park Saturday, July 27, 2024.
This new area contains new features such as new play equipment, an area for community gatherings, and places to cook as well.
There were also some added natural features like a stream with natural water filtration and native plants that can grow around the park.
What was once an empty lot has now transformed into something the Oak Grove neighborhood can utilize for recreational purposes.
“Having a place like Lynnbrook Park is vital for our neighborhood. It provides a safe and welcoming environment where families and friends can come together, build relationships, and
create lasting memories. This park is more than just a green space; it’s a cornerstone of our community,” said Marvene Noel, District 8 Councilwoman.
Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly was also in attendance for the grand opening, and said he was happy to see a community receive a space they can really put to use.
“Parks and playgrounds should be accessible to everyone, and I know the Oak Grove community is excited about this new neighborhood park. Chattanooga is known for our outdoor assets, but we’re always looking for ways to increase access to nature. The park’s restored stream, walking paths, native plants, and playground will meaningfully improve the quality of life in this neighborhood.” said Kelly.
Lynnbrook Park received the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Parks Build Community Award in 2021. Lynnbrook Park also received almost $300,000 worth of items donated toward this new area.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of Lynbrook Park and welcome the local community to celebrate with us by visiting this beautiful new community space. We are thankful to the many partners who helped bring this project to life
and are grateful for the partnership with Chattanooga and the community. We are looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing the photos of this new community space in action,” stated NRPA chief partnerships officer, Kellie May.
If you’d like to see the area for yourself, the parks address is 1602 Lynnbrook Avenue.
