New Drivers License

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) —   The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) announced that they’re issuing new driver licenses with a new design starting August 19, 2024.

This announcement also came with the introduction of self service kiosks at Driver Service Centers.

Self service kiosks will expand into all Driver Service Centers in the coming months, speeding up wait times.

The new driver license design features the state capital in Nashville, the three stars in Tennessee’s state flag, and better security.

Made with a polycarbonate composition, and incorporating very fine lines of waves and patterns, these new ID cards will not be easy to reproduce.

The ID card also includes graphics and laser engraved elements that can reveal if its fraudulent or the ID has been altered.

“The new Tennessee Driver Licenses incorporate the latest technology which makes them more difficult to counterfeit, alter, or duplicate.  These countermeasures help prevent theft and fraud and help keep your identity safe,” said Jeff Long, TDOSHS Commissioner.

Citizens who carry the old design don’t need to get a new ID before their current one expires.

Driver licenses are valid until the listed expiration date on the card.
