TBI investigates officer-involved shooting in Chattanooga
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – At the request of District Attorney General Coty Wamp, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agents are looking into the circumstances leading up to a fatal officer-involved shooting on October 8.
The preliminary investigation says members of the U.S. Marshals Service Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force attempted to locate a wanted individual at an apartment complex on N. Germantown Road in Chattanooga. There was a confrontation with two males leaving in a vehicle during an interview with residents at the complex.
Reports of the scene say marshals attempted to stop the vehicle from leaving, but the driver, Samuel Story who was born on September 5, 1980, backed up his vehicle. A marshal got caught between the door of the vehicle and was dragged. The marshal discharged his weapon which struck Story.
The driver was transported to a local hospital and died of his injuries. The marshal was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. TBI agents are working to determine the series of events leading up to the shooting. The investigation findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for further review.
