ATLANTA, Ga. (WDEF) —  Georgia Attorney General, Chris Carr, join 22 other attorneys general urging a Tennessee court to enforce its orders requiring TikTok to share and preserve evidence in an ongoing investigation.

The coalition of attorneys general began the investigation back in 2022 in order to determine if TikTok’s practices harm children and teens mental health while also violating state consumer protection laws.

Several states, including Georgia, have requested information about TikTok’s practices.

After TikTok failed to provide the requested information, Georgia and 45 other states filed a court brief, supporting Tennessee’s court order request to make TikTok comply.

This is the second time the court has ordered TikTok to produce evidence such as documents and witnesses.

“When it comes to social media, we’re working to protect our children from content that could prove harmful to their physical or mental health.  With the assistance of our fellow attorneys general, we’re committed to conducting a thorough investigation of TikTok’s practices so we can ensure the rule of law is upheld and our kids are kept safe,” stated Carr.

The coalition’s brief claims that TikTok’s failure to preserve and produce relevant evidence has slowed down the investigation.

This warns that without a court-enforced resolution, other companies may also feel free to destroy evidence, making it harder for states to protect their residences.

As attorneys general across the country continue their investigation, the coalition remains focused on understanding the impacts TikTok’s practices have on younger people’s mental health.
