Tennessee American Water participating in ‘Drug Take Back Day’

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Hamilton County Coalition and Tennessee American Water are coming together for ‘Drug Take Back Day’.

This day is a biannual National Prescription Drug Take Back national event created by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (EST), Hamilton County residents can drop off any unwanted medications at the locations listed here.

Other regional sites will be available in Rhea and Grundy counties as well.

Regional sites in the central time zone will hold their drug take back events from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This is a free, anonymous service to anyone willing to participate.

“The Hamilton County Coalition is proud to partner with law enforcement and community allies like Tennessee American Water to promote safe medication disposal.  As a substance abuse prevention organization, we work to raise awareness of proper medication disposal in homes to reduce potential abuse,” said Executive Director of the Hamilton County Coalition, Camilla Bibbs.

Tennessee American Water discourages individuals of flushing or throwing away old or unwanted medications.

“Participating in Drug Take Back not only helps clear our homes of unneeded medications but also plays a vital role in protecting our watersheds. Together, we can foster a safer, healthier environment for our community,” explains Lori Stenzel, Tennessee American Water Manager of Water Quality and Environmental Compliance.
