Steer Clear of Flooded Car Scammers
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – In the wake of the effects of the previous two hurricanes that caused devastating flooding all across the Southeast area, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission are warning and reminding car buyers to be alert of possible flood-damaged vehicle scams.
As vehicles around that area are being declared as total losses, some dishonest dealers or individuals are trying to make quick money by selling flood damaged vehicles and being dishonest about the condition.
The Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission Executive Director, Denise Lawrence, stated that “you should ask hard questions and conduct your due diligence if you are approached by someone who is offering a supposedly great deal on a vehicle that was last used in a state that recently sustained flooding.”
Prior to the sale of a flooded vehicle, any person selling a flooded vehicle is required by law to disclose such history to the purchaser. Be sure to be on the lookout for indicators of all sorts.
