Prisoner escapee in Franklin County found in Coffee County

Tony Jameson Sweeton was caught in Coffee County.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department says he will remain in their custody to face his original and new charges.

 


FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A prisoner has escaped while being transported from Franklin County to Coffee County.

Tony Jameson Sweeton broke free from a transport vehicle on November 20, 2024, at 8:27 p.m., according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The escape occurred at the intersection of Highway 127 and Wattendorf Highway.

Authorities confirm Sweeton was handcuffed at the time and is believed to still be restrained.

He fled into a wooded area west of the intersection.

Deputies from Franklin and Coffee Counties have set up a perimeter around the wooded area as they continue the search.

Sweeton is a 23-year-old white male that is 5 feet 7 inches tall.

He weighs 155 pounds, has blonde hair, blue eyes, and has tattoos on his face and neck.

Sweeton was in a Franklin County court, facing charges of statutory rape.

Sweeton also faces the following charges in Coffee County:

  • Assault on First Responders (3 counts)
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Theft of Property
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Domestic Violence
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
  • Vandalism (2 counts)
  • Driving on a Revoked License
  • Violation of Probation (2 counts)
  • Assault (3 counts)
  • Improper Display of Tag
