Hamilton County deputies involved in Highway 153 pursuit
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were involved in a pursuit on Highway
153 last night.
At approximately 10:05 p.m., November 26, 2024, a deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle near a motel in the Hamilton Place mall area.
When the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled, and the deputy initiated a pursuit.
According to HCSO, the suspect fled down I-75 before merging onto Highway 153 North.
Deputies were able to successfully deploy spike strips near the Chickamauga Dam.
The vehicle lost momentum and ended up turning into the parking lot of Logan’s Restaurant.
HCSO stated the pursuit ended after the suspect made contact with a deputy’s vehicle and then striking two curbs.
The suspect, Michael Topacio was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
It was later discovered Topacio had an active warrant for a Probation Violation.
The vehicle he was driving was also reported stolen.
Deputies recovered several grams of methamphetamine from the vehicle as well.
Topacio faces the following charges along with his probation violation:
- Felony Evading
- Reckless Endangerment
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for Resale
