Rhea County Sheriff’s Office involved in McMinn County manhunt

 

MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Rhea County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) along with other agencies assisted with a manhunt in McMinn County Thursday morning.
In the early morning hours of December 5, 2024, RCSO deputies Swafford, Ritchie, and K9 deputy Blondie were asked to assist in a McMinn County manhunt.
According to RCSO, a fugitive had fled on foot after a vehicle pursuit on Highway 30 in McMinn County.
The fugitive was able to be located via drone, and deputies along with K9 Blondie were able to track them down.
These agencies were able to arrest the suspect, Michael Benson.
Benson is being charged with the following:
  • Felony Evading (2 counts)
  • Misdemeanor Evading Arrest
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Several other outstanding warrants including parole violation.
